How to Play Ludo

Game guide · ZING22

Making your first moves in Ludo

Start Ludo by looking at the playing area and its controls. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Look at what changes after your first action. Read the objective before making your first input. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Take a closer look while playing

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Use the example to check your reasoning.

The goal to keep in mind

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Start here and follow along

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Read the matching step again.

Where a round can go wrong

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
