Word Search: learn through an example

Read the aim of Word Search, then make your first move. Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Look at what changes after your first action. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Each board contains eight target words from the included English word list.

A small practice goal

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Refer to the controls when needed.

The goal to keep in mind

Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Take a moment to understand the current position.

A walkthrough of the rules

  1. Select the first and last letter of a straight word.
  2. Words can run horizontally, vertically or diagonally, in either direction.
  3. Find all eight targets.
  4. New puzzle shuffles again.

Making selections and moves

Tap or click endpoints. Use the control method described here for this activity. Use one clear input at a time.

Try this example

Selecting the endpoints in reverse order also finds the same word. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Take a moment to compare.

Keep this in mind

Words cannot turn corners. Check the rule before repeating the action. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
